Imbolo Mbue, a Cameroonian writer who hails from the beautiful seaside town of Limbe makes world headlines as Oprah Winfrey picks her book “Behold The Dreamer” for her book club.

This was announced by Oprah herself on social media and on CBS This Morning. Oprah posted a video on her Facebook page and twitter timeline in which she raved about Imbolo‘s critically acclaimed debut novel.

“It’s got everything that’s grabbing the headlines in America right now. It’s about race and class, the economy, culture, immigration and the danger of the ‘us versus them’ mentality.” said Oprah Winfrey

Behold the dreamers first saw the light of the day in August 2016. In a nutshell, the book is about Jende and Nina Jonga, a married couple from Cameroon who have immigrated to New York with their young son. Jende finds work as a chauffeur for a Lehman Bros. executive; when the firm goes bankrupt during the 2008 financial collapse, he’s forced to deal with the effect the collapse has on his family. In an interview with Oprah, Imbolo Mbue reveals she never thought about writing but she however loved books. During one of Imbolo‘s trips to a library she decided to read a pick from Oprah’s Book Club  “Song Of Solomon” and that’s how she started writing.

Oprah‘s literary endorsements are widely sought after by publishers as  they are eager for instant sales boosts her picks usually get. It is an honour to have such talent hail from Cameroon. We do hope she comes home for a book tour. Visit her website to find out more on Imbolo Mbue.
